Membership Return Report

Section 16 of the Employment Relations Act 2000 requires every registered trade-union to file an annual membership return. The returns for 1 March 2010 are presented in the attached document.

As at 1 March 2010 there were 157 registered emplyment associatins with a total membership of 379,649. This membership represents 17.4% of the total employed force (March 2010 Household Labour Force Survey), and 20.9% of wage/salary earners for that period (March 2010 Household Labour Force Survey). The total number of members has declined by 2.1% since March 2009. Additionally, a decrease of 0.1% in the total employed labour force occurred in the same period.
